Cleveland Ballet is pleased to announce that two extra perfor-

the

mances have been added to its Spring season at the Hanna Theatre. In addition to already scheduled performances on 22 and 23 of April at 8:30 p.m. and 24 of April at 3 p.m. Cleveland Ballet has added a 3 p.m. matinee performance on Saturday the 23rd of April and an evening performance on Sunday the 24 of April at 8 p.m.

"The demand for tickets was so overwhleming during our late February season at the Hanna, that in order to accommodate the public and allow for more people to see Cleveland Ballet, we've added these two performances to our schedule," says Gerald Ketelaar, General Manager. "I would still advise people to act immediately on ticket purchases if they want to be assured of good seating."

In addition to the scheduling of extra performances, Cleveland Ballet announces the repeat presentation of one of the most popular ballets of the season, "Suite Caracteristique" (Nahat/Tchaikowsky).

This ballet was premiered on November 19 1976 at the Hanna to an enthusiastic response from the public and the critics. "Suite Caracteristique" has been added to the April repertory because of this enthusiastic reception.

For the first time in its short history, Cleveland Ballet will feature a live orchestra of 41 musicians during the April Hanna season. The orchestra, will be conducted by Dwight Oltman and will be formed entirely by Cleveland area musicians. Completing the April program

for the five total performances will be Agnes de Mille's "Three Virgins and a Devil" (music by Respighi) in a production sponsored by the Chessie Systems. This production will mark the first staging of the work by a ballet company outside of New York. Dennis Nahat will be featured as the Devil, a role he made famous with American Ballet Theatre.

"Ontogeny" is a contemporary work with choreography by' Nahat and music by Karel Husa ("String Quartet No. 3"), a score I which won a Pulitzer Prize for composition in 1969. "Ontogeny," a ballet dealing with the subject of "life cycles" was received with great controversy by New York audiences in its 1970 premiere. (The music for "Ontogeny" will be presented by recording).

Completing the April-season

repertory will be "Grand Pas de Dix," a bravura ballet choreographed in the grand Imperial Russian style by Dennis Nahat to a score from the full length "Raymonda" by Alexander Glazounov. This ballet was premiered at the Drury Theatre of the Cleveland Play House on May 20th, 1976.

Costumes for "Grand Pas de Dix" are by Toodie Wittmer. Costumes for "Suite Caracteristique" and "Ontogeny" are by Ginger Shane. Set designs for "Three Virgins and a Devil" are by David Guthrie..

Special ticket discounts are available for groups. Tickets for all five performances are now on sale by mail, through the Cleveland Ballet Box Office, 1375 Euclid, Cleveland, Ohio 44114 or by calling 621-3634.
